It wasn’t just about the kilometers—it was about the cause.
It wasn’t just about the kilometers—it was about the cause.
When 21 courageous cyclists set out from Nairobi on an early morning, their hearts were as determined as their legs were ready. Ahead of them lay 600 kilometers of grueling roads, unpredictable weather, and the unshakable belief that their efforts could change lives.
This was the Workable Charity Cycling Tour—a daring, two-day ride from Nairobi to Busia to raise funds for the Boma Letu Africa Children's Village. The orphanage, located in Busia County, provides a home, education, and hope for underserved children. The goal? To raise awareness, provide resources, and most importantly, make a difference.
The Ride Begins
Day 1 kicked off with excitement and anticipation. As the cyclists navigated through Nairobi’s bustling streets, the terrain shifted from flatlands to rolling hills as they headed toward Nakuru, Kericho, and onward.
The team faced physical strain, intense heat, and unexpected rain, yet they pedaled on. Every kilometer brought a mix of exhaustion and exhilaration, knowing the ultimate reward was far greater than the pain.
By the time Day 1 ended, the riders had covered an incredible 300 kilometers. Rest stops became moments of camaraderie, where shared stories and laughter overpowered aching muscles.
Overcoming Challenges
Day 2 was no less demanding. Strong winds and hilly terrain pushed the cyclists to their limits. Traffic police escorts ensured their safety as they navigated busy highways and towns. Slowly but surely, they conquered the final stretch, from Kakamega through Bungoma and into Busia.
Of the 21 cyclists who started, 11 made it to the finish line—a testament to resilience, teamwork, and the power of purpose.
The Impact
Thanks to generous contributions, the event raised KES 205,000, used to provide essentials such as food, sanitary kits for girls, children’s shoes and clothes, toiletries, and more. One standout donation came from Tamuwa , which gifted 2 tons of briquettes to the orphanage. These eco-friendly fuel sources not only reduce fire risks but also offer a sustainable alternative to firewood—a game-changer for the children's village.
Every donation, pedal, and moment of support contributed to a brighter future for the children of Boma Letu.
